Welcome to 2013

So, 2012 closes and we welcome in 2013. Last night we shared the evening with our closest friends, danced, drank fizz, played cards, but most of all just laughed and enjoyed the bond of being able to be easy with people you share history with over many years.
As I reflect back on 2012 it had it's share of historic moments, standing on a bridge getting very wet to wait for the Queen, the excitement of the Olympics, as well as our own family history of a wedding.

To-day the sun aptly shone, it's the first time it's been sunny in about two weeks. We grabbed our coats and went for a walk, the countryside was draped in an extra layer of water.

As I reflect on 2012, past the 'big' moments what amazes me are the list of things that if you had told me at the start of 2012 that they would have happened I would not have believed you.

These are things that have shaped the year, challenged me in different ways, but within this I have seen answers to prayer, and for that I am thankful. Thinking back over the last few years, it's been the same each year, and it amazes me again that things occur that you just can't see or expect.
As we start another year there is nothing on the horizon that I can see that looks like it will surprise me- and I guess that's good, as if I knew all the time what was coming I'd work it into another to-do list.
Instead going into the year I want to learn to be more dependent on God, to say I don't know what you have planned for this year, but I am going to trust in your plans and try not to live in my own independence and never ending schedules.
To-day our path ahead was stopped by the water, we turned and went a different way, I am nervous, excited, and open to what the future holds in 2013, knowing that there will be moments when I will need to turn a different way, but knowing that God has it in hand and grateful for family and friends as we share more of our lives together.
